Holiday Gift-Giving Tips | Lush | 12 Days of ChristmasDecember 13, 2016
Can you believe that it’s only 12 days to Christmas?? O.M.G!!!
It’s once again that time of the year; the season of celebrations and the season of gift giving!!! When it comes to gift buying, there are two kinds of people - super last minute shoppers or folks who stock up on gifts throughout the year. No matter which of these categories any of us belong to, we all want to buy that perfect gift for our loved ones - a gift that is thoughtful, useful and at the same time doesn’t break the bank. But buying that perfect gift can cause a lot of anxiety, stress and can be time consuming.
So, I am sharing a few tips to help you pick that perfect gift, not just this holiday season but for any time of the year and for any occasion…
Buy (and value) experiences, not things: The gift of experience is the biggest and the best gift of all. This is something I swear by and adopt most frequently when choosing a gift, especially for the hubs (like flying a helicopter, seaplane tour of Seattle etc) and other family members. These experiences and the memories attached with these experiences last a lifetime while materialistic things have an expiry date on them. So buy something that you both can experience and enjoy together, or maybe sign them up for something they would never even dream of (hint, hint, skydiving! :D). Guitar classes, dance lessons, sailing, flying, vacation, etc, are just a few such options to choose from.
Homemade gifts: Again, one of the best gifts ever! Homemade gifts are both thoughtful and inexpensive. Well, you can’t really put a price on the time and effort that goes into creating a handmade gift. As simple or as complicated it maybe homemade gifts are priceless and one to hold onto for life (unless of course it is a baked goodie). Maybe you can benefit from it too, if you pick up a skill or two while planning and making the gift, say pottery or knitting (sounds like fun right!).
Personalized gifts: The unique and customized personal gifts surely show your loved ones that they are truly special, I mean, who wouldn’t like a personalized gift right! From wine bottles to jewelry, from monograms to photo frames, there are just too many options to choose from. And if you are short of ideas or are looking for gifts that are different, then websites like Uncommon Goods will definitely have something in store for you.
Online Shopping (with a wish list): This one’s a no brainer. Online shopping is the best way to avoid the crowds, avoid being distracted by a gazillion options available in stores and avoid long checkout lines. Best part is you can even have it shipped right to your loved ones (if need be). It also gives you the ability to choose from more variety, compare prices and buy gifts at great discounts. Also, just maintain an online potential-gifts-wish-list throughout the year so you won’t have to stress when you have to buy gifts, simply choose from that wish list and place your order.
Gift Cards: I know, even I cannot believe that I am saying this as I am not one for gift cards, but I do have to agree that giving a gift card is so much better than buying something utterly useless. Especially when you don’t have a clue as to what the other person already has or currently needs, then gift cards are your best bet. What’s the point in buying just any random gift for the sake of it, right?
Gift of Pampering: Who doesn’t love to be be spoiled and pampered? Especially this time of the year when we all need some much needed R&R time. While a gift certificate to a spa sounds wonderful, a gift set like my favorite holiday classic 12 Days of Christmas from Lush (cruelty-free, vegetarian, handmade products) is an excellent idea too. It’s a luxury treat to say the least, because, some ‘me time' is what we all crave for in our busy lives. So buying such a gift means you are really forcing (doing them a favor more like) your loved one to soak in the bubbles, indulge in a relaxed-long-bath and care for themselves (and their skin). Trust me, they will forever be thankful for this one! And for more pampering gift sets and ideas, check out Lush.
No matter what gift you pick, please be sure to also give the gift of time for that’s far more valuable than any other gift in the world! And do include a note of appreciation or handmade thank you card, because, you can never show enough gratitude for someone’s presence in your life!!!
On that note, what’s your tip for a stress-free holiday season and gift buying?
