Holiday Looks & Must Have's | Little Black Dress

December 06, 2016

It’s the 6th day of December you guys, can you believe that? I for one most definitely can’t! I mean, wasn’t it just yesterday when we popped open that bottle of champagne to welcome 2016? The images of colorful fireworks exploding behind the Space Needle, here in Seattle, as the clock struck 12 is still so fresh in my mind and how is it already time to plan the next New Year celebrations? Really? :-o Anyhow, this is that magical time of the year that always gets me uber-excited; from shopping for gifts to prepping for the holidays, from putting up decorations to baking goodies for family and friends, from endlessly sipping hot cocoa to decking up for the parties, just so many reasons to be excited about and plan for!

When it comes to the innumerable holiday parties this season, what’s more stylish and effortless than throwing on a classic LBD, Little Black Dress… Better yet, some textured lace details in a sexy LBD makes it the perfect feminine piece that can be worn from date nights to dance floors (just by switching up make-up, accessories and shoes)! It also helps hide all that holiday weight we have been putting on since Thanksgiving (or was it since Halloween? ;)). Regardless of your personal choice - may it be classy, trendy or both, it’s no surprise that a well-fitted LBD is a staple in every women’s closet!

And this classy and elegant sleeveless Little Black Dress (or is it dark navy blue? I will let you be the judge ;)) from Visette Boutique that I wore back in February for a date night is one such perfect LBD! It provides an excellent blank canvas that I can style so many different ways to match the holiday season and occasion. The fine lace detailing, the faux frill look, the romantic neckline and the sexy back (I pulled up my hair into a knot to show off) of this dress creates drama and also is a superb choice to play with. So, keeping this gorgeous LBD in mind, let’s see how to style a LBD for all your December parties…

Tips to Style a Little Black Dress For The Holidays

Festive Accessories: Nothing says holidays quite like some sparkle and shine; so add some glitz to your LBD with statement earrings, necklace, bracelet or finger rings, you know, the whole nine yards! Anything with gold, silver or stones always comes out a winner.

Metallic belts: Kick up the holiday look a notch by adding a metallic belt. Metallics add the perfect amount of holiday flair to your party ensemble and really make it stand out. But be conscious not to overdo it, especially if you are also adding some statement accessories.

Leggings or Stockings: Bare legs in winter is a big NO-NO, so a pair of leggings or stockings underneath your dress adds that much needed warmth for your legs. Choose from one of the many options - opaque black tights, sheer (or semi-sheer) nude, charcoal or black hose (pattern or no-pattern) or even a lacy pair - of course, it all depends on the kind of dress you are wearing.

Clutch: It’s the perfect party purse, period. And bejeweled clutches are the most common sight during any holiday season. Since it’s available in so many shapes, sizes, textures and colors, just be mindful to choose one that has enough room to hold all your essentials (I mean your giant iPhone 7+) and is eye-catching at the same time.

Chic Outer Layers: This one might come off as soon as you enter the party but it’s still the most essential part of your holiday outfit! Go for contrasting or complementing fabrics to add warmth as well as to complete the look. A sequined jacket or a structured coat is that perfect addition to keep you cozy and look elegant.

Embellished Heels or Red Pumps: Finding the perfect pair of shoes for the holidays is no easy task! So pick a shoe with some sparkle, details or a pop of color (maybe even a pair of sequined flats) to add that much needed edginess to a LBD and you will be ready to strut away the night without much effort.

So what are you waiting for, bring out your favorite LBD from the closet and play around with these tips to style it perfectly for the holidays!

And while you are at it, tell me what your favorite way to wear a Little Black Dress to the upcoming party is?

“People will stare.  Make it worth their while.”
