Holiday Looks | Velvet on Velvet | OTK BootsDecember 22, 2016
In my previous Holiday Look post, I went on and on about how velvet is the most luxe and comfortable trend this year. And that how I have deliberately been adding more and more velvet pieces to my wardrobe collection this season. So, after drooling over the most comfortable and not-so-obvious-choice, the velvet pants (in my previous post), it’s time to now look at the most-obvious-choice, the velvet dress. Pair the velvet dress with not just any over-the-knee (OTK) boots but with a velvet OTK boots and you have the most perfect holiday party outfit to rock this Christmas, New Year’s (and beyond)!!!

While red, green, black and gold mostly dominate the holiday scene this time of the year, wearing a color such as this royal blue not only makes you feel different (in a good way of course) but also makes you stand out in a crowd (all eyes on you ;)). Plus, why wear the same obvious colors year over year when there are plenty of other great colors to choose from, right? So, apart from picking a distinct color, I also went with a maxi version of the dress with long sleeves. Again, not-an-obvious-choice for the season unless it is a gown and to me, this is a pretty great choice to keep myself warm in the cold weather and yet keep it chic. The high neckline, the deep open back and the side slit of the dress adds the right amount of 'oomph to the outfit, keeping it both elegant and glamorous at the same time. What’s more, it comes at a price you can’t beat ($16, yep!).
And who here is not a fan of OTK boots? Apparently, a popular trend back in the 60’s and 70’s is back on the streets, and why they ever went out of style I don’t understand. I mean, it’s the most practical yet sophisticated pair of shoes ever made! If I can still rock a mini dress (even a maxi for that matter) in winter and not freeze to death, then it is all thanks to a pair of OTK boots and a winter coat, so why not? Given the wide variety of options, picking a pair was not the easiest decision for me to make. In the end, I settled for the basics, a pair of black velvet (told you, I am obsessed!) low heel OTK boots, and let me tell you, not only do these keep me super-warm but these boots are made for walking. From a casual look to dressy, you can pretty much pair these with any outfit.
All in all, over-the-knee boots are such a statement footwear and if you don’t yet own a pair of OTK boots, then its time to step up your footwear game ladies.
So, have you decided what you are going to be wearing to holiday parties this year? What’s been your favorite trend to sport this season?
