Baby's First Cake Tasting | Whipped Icing Takes The Cake

September 30, 2017

Thanks to Bettercreme® Whipped Icing / Rich Products for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions in the post are my own.

I think that my favorite/most used phrase for the rest of my life is going to be, ‘when and how did that happen’!? Only this time around, it’s upon realizing the fact that my little monkey, my baby boy turned 5 months old last week. I mean, seriously, how, just how??? Wasn’t I just counting days to his arrival, arguing with the hubs about what we are going to name him and who he is going to take after? I just cannot believe how time has flown by since this angel came into our lives and blessed our family with never ending smiles and happiness! And fast forward 5 months, here I am, obsessing over his daily schedule and planning his meals (yay, he’s at that age now, and yes, already!).

Skeptical Baby: 'Let me see if mom will allow me to touch the cake, oh she is!' :-o

Eager Baby: ''Can I just dig into it already?'

Each month we bring my baby a cake for his birthday, while he only got a lick (of what would seem like the minutest spec ever possible to lift off of the cake) we got to binge eat the rest of the cake on his account. But this time around things were a little different, for one, I bought a cake with Whipped Icing instead of the traditional butterfat icing, and for two, he actually got to taste a teeny-tiny bit of it too, yes, his first cake tasting! As he just turned 5 months old, I am starting him on semi-solids and it seemed like the right time to give him a taste of the oh-so-delicious-eatable-things (because, he wants to put everything in his mouth now, eatable or not) that lie ahead of him.

Me: Now that you pulled my hair and expressed your dissatisfaction, here, have some cake.
(P.S: My hair is always in a bun, thanks to this guy, sigh!)

Grumpy Baby: ''Such a big cake in front of me and mom is only giving me a tiny piece, smh!'

Impatient Baby: ''OK, let me just eat what I get before mom changes her mind.'

Ideally, I’d like to prepare any and all food that goes into my son’s mouth with my own two hands, dessert even, but (I do not live in an ideal world and hence don’t always have the luxury of time) at times I have to make do with alternatives, and in this case with a store-bought dessert. And that’s not a bad thing at all, especially when I get to pick from healthier options. For someone who always looks for healthy alternatives, I just cannot believe that up until now I didn’t opt for Whipped Icing for any and all dessert that I ever bought from the store (or even made at home)! I’d say Whipped Icing is the best thing since sliced bread - it’s smooth, it’s creamy, it’s light, it’s fluffy, it’s (hands down) tastier and better for you than the heavier Buttercreme (or butterfat) icing. It’s less sugary, and it’s fewer in calories too (score!).

And can we just talk about this too-pretty-to-eat-cake I picked up from my local Safeway bakery right here in Seattle… Who knew it was as easy as walking into my local grocery store bakery and Asking For Whipped?. I was both surprised and happy to find out that Whipped Icing cakes, cupcakes, brownie bites are also available in the bakeries of Fred Meyer, Safeway, Kroger, QFC, Walmart, Albertsons, etc. How awesome is that! That’s not it, the best thing is that it is also available in many vibrant colors and fun flavors (think S’mores, Cookies-n-Crème, Sea Salt Caramel, or any trendy festive flavors).

Needless to say, we devoured the entire cake over the weekend #SorryNotSorry! I know that from now on any celebrations or occasions that call for cake, Whipped Icing will be my go-to choice…
Guilt-free indulgence, yes please!

Don’t believe me, head over to your local grocery store bakery and Ask for Whipped, NOW! (you can thank me later!).  And as you think up your order, do check out for more Whipped Icing inspiration and be sure to follow them on Instagram and Facebook.
