KK Beach Boutique Hotel | Sri Lanka | The Asia Collective

September 05, 2018

Thanks to KK Beach Boutique Hotel & Restaurant for graciously hosting us.
Written in partnership with the hotel and The Asia Collective. And as always, all opinions in the post are my own

Imagine waking up early in the morning at 4 AM, being on the road for 16+ hours, driving half-way across the country, being pushed around in an overcrowded train for 3+ hrs (oh the adventures we embark upon to visit some popular destinations), and then finally making it to your hotel... What would you want to do then? Head straight to your hotel room and crash in bed, right? That’s exactly what Vinay and I thought we’d do as soon as we reached The KK Beach Boutique Hotel & Restaurant after such a long and exhausting day,

On the contrary, we checked into the KK Beach Boutique Hotel, went up to our room, quickly freshened up, and came back downstairs to their restaurant for dinner, and more importantly, for the view of the beach at night and the calming sound of the crashing waves as we sat down feeding our hungry selves at the restaurant - one which overlooks the swimming pool surrounded by a grassy lawn and a beautiful white sand beach just steps ahead…

It’s interesting what/how a few simple things can change your whole night around, no matter how cranky you are, or how exhausted you feel… It all started with the oh-so-refreshing welcome drink we were offered at the KK Beach Boutique Hotel as soon as we walked in and parked our tired behinds on the cushiony couches in the lobby. By the time we were done with our drinks (as we listened to the ocean waves), our decision to inhale our food in the room and hit snooze quickly changed to us telling the concierge ‘no, you don’t have to send room service, we will come down for dinner’ (we had called ahead of time and had ordered dinner from the menu before their kitchen closed in hopes of eating in our room).

Thus began our delightful time at The KK Beach Boutique Hotel…

The hotel is located in Habaraduwa, the Southern part of Sri Lanka, just 2.5 hrs drive from Colombo and 20 mins from Galle (a UN World Heritage Site). With every room on the property designed with its own private balcony overlooking the Indian ocean, the lawn and the pool, this contemporary, stylish and affordable beachfront boutique hotel is sure to take your breath away!

You can slide through pictures after pictures online and dream about your time at a particular place, but not until you are actually there do you realize just how much more gorgeous the reality is… I simply cannot get over waking up in our penthouse at the KK Beach Hotel to the gorgeous views of the Indian ocean lined by swaying coconut trees and the soothing sound of crashing waves. You wake up and walk 10 steps from your hotel room and you are at this pristine and quiet white sand beach that you have all to yourself. You can’t stop but gaze endlessly at the stunning postcard view - the picture-perfect-curvy-coastline, the coconut trees, and the endless ocean.

With our penthouse that had a huge bedroom, dressing room and bathroom which were all spotlessly clean and way larger than my 3 bedroom grad school apartment (10 years ago), with the design and interiors of which looked like it is straight out of a magazine, with the hotel staff incredibly polite, hospitable and friendly who paid attention and catered to every.single.ask, with the neverending views of the ocean, with mornings that started with a delicious Sri Lankan and international breakfast right by the beach (dine every meal with a view), with the sun-bed in the lawn which put me right in the middle of the beautiful swimming pool on one side and the serene beach on the other, I was simply swept away and never wanted to leave…

Speaking of breakfast, the highlight for me was getting to drink fresh king coconut water (called tender coconut in India, which has been my favoritest drink since childhood). Growing up in India, I was fortunate enough to enjoy fresh tender coconut water every so often from our own farm. Even now every time I visit India, I drink one every.single.day. So when the in-house gardener at your hotel climbs up a coconut tree every morning to bring down some king coconut and it’s on your breakfast menu, your DAY IS MADE!

If I had it my way, I would probably just spend all day at this quiet-and-not-too-busy-hotel (unlike many other hotels we generally stay at during vacations) lounging by the pool or beach and sipping some cocktails. Alas, when we are on vacation we want to see as much of the place as possible, so we would go out during the day for a bit to explore the nearby beach towns (will talk more about it in another post, but just know that there was turtle feeding involved hehe) but be back at the hotel early in the evening to kick up our feet, enjoy the views, and relax.

As far as exploring the nearby towns go, we had our own transport but it is easy enough to find a tuk tuk outside the hotel and head out to indulge in various activities such as surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, biking through the rice fields, canoeing, whale watching, deep sea fishing, or go on other cultural tours and boat trips.

This was truly a different kind of calm, quiet and relaxing stay for Vinay and I. We do have a thing for boutique hotels, they are so unique in every which way, and boutique hotels also have a way of making you feel extra special. If you are looking for a luxurious home-away-from-home experience right on the beach, then KK Beach Boutique Hotel & Restaurant certainly is your best bet!!! We can’t wait to go back when our baby boy is older.
