Thanks to The Jetwing Colombo Seven Hotel for graciously hosting us.
Written in partnership with the hotel and The Asia Collective. And as always, all opinions in the post are my own.
In a nutshell, Jetwing Colombo Seven Hotel was a great stay for our first few nights in Sri Lanka… Excellent location with close proximity to many attractions, restaurants and cafes, extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, spacious and clean rooms/bathrooms with contemporary interiors, beautiful rooftop infinity pool with great views of the city, and delicious local and international cuisine served at their in-house restaurant, what else does one need to kick-start a memorable vacation!
In the heart of the hustle, above the bustle…
Sri Lanka was leg 3 (more about the other 2 legs later) of our month-long vacation and given the absolutely insane and crazy-busy few weeks that led up to the trip to Lanka, Vinay and I couldn’t wait to get there, kick up our feet and soak in every minute of the baby-free few days we had ahead of us (thanks to our parents!). Don’t get me wrong, we both love our baby boy to bits (and miss him every minute we are away from him) but we do need some alone-quality-time to ourselves every now and then (I believe this only makes us better parents and something to teach our boy from a very young age, but let’s reserve that discussion for another post).
After having landed at Colombo airport late in the night, we only made it to the hotel around 10:30 PM (thank god for the short ride from the airport). Vinay and I thought we’d head straight to the room and crash in our beds (we had both gotten by with very little sleep the past few weeks), but little did we know that our comfy and cozy hotel room would instantly change our minds as we stayed awake way past 1 AM, checking out the pool area, planning the next day (special thanks to Dulantha from the hotel who went the extra mile to get us the information we wanted and also proactively followed up with us the following morning), and watching TV in bed, sometimes you just gotta go with the flow.
I think that the vibe of a hotel has a lot to do with how relaxed you instantly feel! The minimalist and modern decor throughout the hotel, including the lobby, the rooms, the restaurants are one to take note of. The huge and well-furnished rooms that come with all the necessities and more (the rooms had a built-in international adapter to charge your devices) made us feel right at home.
Unique design – glass wall between the bedroom and bathroom
The glass wall is so clean that you can’t even tell that it is even there 😉
Next morning we had a late start to the day (by late, I mean, 8 AM cuz our vacation mornings usually start at 6 AM, or at times even at 4 AM, like the following morning haha). We got ready and headed straight to breakfast and I was super happy to see lots of my favorite Sri Lankan dishes besides the international options on the breakfast buffet menu at their 57 Restaurant. It was already a great start to the day with a leisurely, delicious (and quiet) breakfast (because that’s a thing of the past when you have a baby in the picture haha). We then got some helpful tips from the reception staff and set out to explore Colombo city, the first half of the day on foot and the next half in tuk tuk (popularly called as auto rickshaw in India).
Tuk tuks are easily available right in front of the hotel, there is absolutely no wait time. And since the hotel is centrally located, every tuk tuk driver seemed to know exactly where the Jetwing Colombo Seven Hotel is. If you prefer to explore the city by walk like we do, then you will be happy to know that many tourist attractions are only a 10-30 mins walk from the hotel (Odel, the famous shopping center is only a five-minute stroll from the hotel ). It also made sense for us to come back to the hotel to quickly freshen up before we went out later that night. P.S: Luckily, there is also a convenience store right opposite the hotel, you only realize the value of proximity when you have forgotten to bring something in your toiletries bag and need it immediately.
Gotta love a sparkling full-size mirror 😀
After a day of exploring the city in hot and humid weather, and enjoying some drinks later that evening from a rooftop bar in the Galle Face Green area, we were glad to be back by the infinity pool lounge at the hotel, welcomed by some much-needed nighttime cool breeze and amazing city views. I sunk into the chaise lounge by the pool and didn’t want to move. I have no idea when we went back down to our room and how we even managed to wake up at 4 AM the next morning to get a head start for the long, long, really long day we had ahead of us.
We grabbed some quick breakfast the following morning and headed out the door as our driver patiently loaded our luggage in the car.
Thanks for your warm welcome and hospitality, Jetwing Colombo Seven Hotel. I would highly recommend the Jetwing chain of hotels to anyone visiting Srilanka, for business, or for pleasure.
