Fun at-home date (night) ideas to reconnect with your partner and rekindle the romance!
Quarantine or not, the hubs and I have been doing date night in (aka at-home date nights) for a while now (perks of being parents). So we are no strangers to a date night in.
Our typical Friday night at-home-dates involve putting our toddler to bed earlier than usual, turning on the fireplace, popping open a bottle of wine, tossing our favorite Trader Joe’s pizza in the oven, and watching a good movie on TV (while indulging in all the yummy goodness, yes, dessert included!).
But we are now living in strange times and as social distancing and self-isolation go on for longer, many couples are finding themselves spending a lot of time together. And many of these couples have never gone on any at-home dates, at least not until now!
While it is important to make sure you are giving yourself adequate time to recharge, you may also be finding that your ‘date nights’ have turned exclusively to ‘Netflix and fall asleep on the couch’, or worse, disappeared altogether.

And suddenly, these date nights are no longer restricted to Friday nights alone, and ‘Netflix and Chill’ no longer works either (aren’t you already doing that all day every day anyway!? ;)).
Just because you are quarantined (or have kids, or have a tight budget), there is no reason to stop dating each other!
Now more than ever, it is important to date your partner, keep that spark alive (especially when you are in each other’s face 24/7), connect with him/her on a deeper level, and revive those romantic feelings.
So, take a shower, brush your hair, and put on your fancy leggings (bold lips are a bonus!), and get creative with your at-home date night ideas, we are here to help…
31 Totally Awesome At-Home Date Night Ideas to make quarantine a little less bleak
1. TAKE A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE
You might be stuck at home but that doesn’t mean you can’t take a trip together. Get your old photos and videos out (plus any other keepsakes), talk, laugh, cry, make fun of each other and reminisce about your time together – from your first meeting to now.
2. GO ON VIRTUAL VACATIONS
The fact that you can’t travel right now does not mean that you cannot explore the world, you still very much can. Make use of these abundant resources and travel from home ideas and go on (many) virtual vacations (costs ‘0’ dollars).
3. GAME NIGHT WITH BOARD/CARD GAMES
Bring out the board games that have been collecting dust and put them to good use, now is the perfect time for it! If board games is not your thing then get creative with card games, maybe even learn a new card game or two, and make some money off of your partner while at it 😉
4. WRITE LOVE LETTERS TO EACH OTHER
Write a real love letter to your partner. One that he/she can hold onto for life cuz real letters are truly a rare treasure. And read each other’s love letters out loud. Maybe even learn a new language together and express love in that new language.
5. PICNIC ON THE FLOOR
Picnic in style, but in your living room (or maybe even your backyard, if you have one and the weather cooperates). Bring take out and have a candlelight dinner, complete with romantic music and great conversation.
6. READ TOGETHER
Turn on your fireplace, get a cup of hot cocoa, and read a book aloud. But if you are both into different genres then you can each read your favorite books next to each other. Or host your own book club and discuss your favorite books.
7. LISTEN TO PODCASTS/AUDIOBOOKS
But if reading isn’t your thing then there is no dearth of podcasts (and audiobooks) to suit your interests and mood. From funny to motivational to everything in between, get into the habit of listening to podcasts together. Here is a great list to get you started.
8. ENJOY BUBBLE BATH TOGETHER
I mean, when was the last time you really had time for a bubble bath, let alone together? But now you have no excuses – dim the lights, turn up the music, and get in the tub with some bubbly in hand.
9. SPA DAY AT-HOME
Why stop at bubble bath!? Give each other massages and pamper/spoil yourselves silly, after all, you both deserve it! Bring out the essential oils, nourishing creams and get going (dim lights and romantic music have already gotten the party started anyway).
10. HOST A THEME NIGHT
Pick a theme – Mexican, Italian, etc and go all out. From dressing up in authentic (or makeshift) outfits to food to TV shows to books to movies, pick your favorite theme and create a fun (theme night) atmosphere at home and indulge yourselves.
11. BREAKFAST IN BED
Again, when was the last time you had a lazy morning and enjoyed some deliciousness in bed? (I mean, food ;)). Either prep everything for breakfast the previous night or simply order-in and treat yourselves to some breakfast in bed. Complete with watching a rom-com in bed, and mimosas are always welcome!
12. PLAY VIDEO GAMES TOGETHER
I am sure at least one of you is a huge video game fan. But how often have the two of you played them together? So now is the time, find something you both will enjoy and play online together. I remember the good ol’ XBOX, WII, PS4 days. Note to self – a scavenger hunt for them in the garage, dust them, and put them to use, now is the time!
13. DO PUZZLES TOGETHER
Try your hands at adult jigsaw puzzles, you can even try playing online. Our inspo for this will forever be our 2-year-old and his love for puzzles. Doing puzzles together is so much fun, or maybe even compete against each other.
14. TAKE DANCE CLASSES TOGETHER
I mean, it can’t get more romantic than this! In our home, we are now dancing more than ever, thanks to our little one. Grooving to your favorite tunes and/or learning some new dance styles and moves while at it is fun, exciting and uber-romantic!
15. MEDITATE TOGETHER
Now more than ever it is important to prioritize your mental health and practice mindfulness. So why not do it together? After all, you now (hopefully) have the time for it. Create a relaxing and calming corner in your home and practice meditation together.
16. SCRAPBOOK TOGETHER
Yes, there is such a thing as a couple’s scrapbook (if there isn’t then now is the time to totally make one up ;)). Put all those travel memories, keepsakes, postcards, etc to good use and make a collage or put together a scrapbook.
17. TAKE PERSONALITY TESTS
Learning new things about your partner is part of the excitement in a relationship. Take personality quizzes and discover new things about one another. The 5 love languages quiz, Enneagram, etc. are not only fun but also helps you strengthen your relationship further.
18. REVIEW YOUR YEAR
Quarantine or not, one of our favorite things to do is to reflect and review the past year together. In the busyness of life, we tend to overlook and forget what all has happened in the last 365 days, so this is a great time to revisit your past highs and lows and devise a plan for the next 365 days.
19. CREATE A VISION BOARD
Most people often make vision boards for themselves, but how fun would it be to create a vision board together as a couple!? This will also help you learn new things about your partner, understand each other expectations, and create common relationship goals for yourselves.
20. CREATE A BUCKET LIST
Except, I am now calling it a post-quarantine list haha. With a newfound appreciation for life (and all the things we once took for granted), our new bucket list might look a lot different from our old bucket list. So discuss and create your new bucket list (specific to travel and/or life in general).
21. PAINT TOGETHER
Now, you might both be great artists or both of you might suck at it (hey, everyone has their talents), but that shouldn’t stop you from getting creative. Wear your old tee (I know, so not the definition of going on a date, but this one is different), bring out the paint colors and get artisy – paint each other’s tee (now tell me if that isn’t romantic!?). Or you could also just stick to letting your creativity flow on paper.
22. GO CAMPING AT-HOME
It might be ages before you are able to go out and camp again in the woods, but that doesn’t have to stop you from camping. Bring the tent, sleeping bags, and pillows to your living room, and complete the set-up with starry night ceiling projections and wilderness sound/music playing in the background.
23. TAKE ON HOUSE PROJECTS
Haha honestly, there’s no dearth for that! Whether it is painting the walls, switching the light fixtures or taking up gardening, there’s always several house renovation projects needing your time and attention. Only this time, amp up your game and make a date out of it!
24. GET CRAFTY TOGETHER
But if the house projects are too much work then get creative and crafty in other ways – make a candle, put together a gallery wall, etc. The options are limitless (no matter what you pick, a drink in hand is a must though!).
25. MOVIE MARATHON
And yes, I am saying movies cuz a movie marathon is not the same as Friday movie night dates or Netflix and Chill. A movie (or a TV show marathon) is rewatching your favorites and making a day out of it!
26. ASK QUESTIONS
Each of you come up with a set of questions and learn more about each other. These can be fun and quirky or deep and meaningful, all goes. The idea is to get to know your partner better, no matter how long you have known each other for, there’s always something new you discover about your partner (with each round of questioning ;)).
27. LEARN A NEW INSTRUMENT
It couldn’t get more romantic than this, learning to play a new instrument together probably is one of my most favorite ‘at-home date’ things to do. If you or your partner already know how to play an instrument then pick up a new one, or learn to play a new song together.
28. Learn to Cook Something New
There are a ton of great food blogs and YouTube channels out there– find your favourite dish and recreate it together.
Food is one of the great love languages of our time and now may be the perfect time for a sexy cooking date complete with good wine and some smooth jazz. Want to get extra points? Cook the meal you shared on your first date, or maybe your partner’s childhood favorite.
Bonus: If your dish doesn’t work out, just UberEats your fave dish and keep the party going. You’ll have fun laughing at each other and still get to enjoy a meal together!
29. Take an Online Workout Class
Since we have the gift of so much extra time, now may be the perfect time to get in shape… together!
Head over to Instagram or YouTube to find ample free workout classes that you can do in the comfort of your own quarantine.
Get sweaty and make it fun. Up for a little competition? Challenge your partner to see who can do the most reps with the loser having to do the dishes or clean the bathroom.
Some fun workout ideas: Beer/ Wine Yoga; HIIT Competitions; VR Boxing; Dance classes.
30. Purge and Declutter
It may not seem sexy, but organizing your storage room may be the ticket to date night.
Every couple has that room that they just toss things in and hope for the best. Well, now is your chance to purge and organize it! Besides, going through memories and spending time chatting is a great way to connect with your partner.
With all this extra time that we have together, you can finally tackle that ‘someday’ to do list. Make your home feel refreshed and rekindle that spark!
31. Learn a new skill
If exercise isn’t your thing, consider learning a new skill with your partner.
Maybe you’ve always wanted to build a side table or learn how to paint– now is the time! Make a list of everything you’ve always wanted to learn how to do and pick one at random.
You and your partner will have fun learning together and hey, maybe even find out you’re really good at something you never thought of!
Some great ideas: Lettering, Household fixes, Magic tricks, Illustrating… or get sexy with it and learn massage or chair dancing!
BONUS: Group Date Night
If you’re missing your weekly charcuterie and wine night with your friends- do it!
Hop on social media apps like Zoom or Houseparty and host a get together with your favorite people. Have everyone create their own charcuterie board and bring their favourite wine, then chill and chat like you were sitting next to each other!
Sing karaoke. Nothing brings you closer more than embarrassment.
Other fun ideas: Create a virtual beer pong tournament or play games like Cards Against Humanity online!
Social distancing doesn’t mean we need to emotionally distance from our friends and loved ones – it just means that we need to get creative in how we spend time together!
